This is a rare 1958 Oliver 770 grove tractor that was purchased new by my grandfather. I learned to drive this tractor before I could drive an automobile. This is a true Florida grove tractor.

Almost bought a small Oliver back in the 60's at a state auction. The pistons had tried to swap holes so one came out the side of the crankcase. Are they a good quality?

I've had 8 Oliver or Hart Parr tractors. 66, 70, 770, 550(2), 1800, 18-28 Oliver Hart Parr, 18-36 Hart Parr. Great tractors, high quality and run great.

The one I fell for looked like really good quality & that's why I almost bought it. Actually I placed bids but was out-bid because I just didn't know anything about the make. How come the Oliver is not so prevalent if good quality?

I really like that one. Even better than a Hoyt-Clagswell.

Blunder I think like so many other companies of their time Oliver fell to high production cost and a failed marketing program. The end of Oliver came in the 70's when the went over seas and started using Fiat engines. This led to White buying them out. There was also some ties with Allis Chalmers who too was bought out by Agco who ended up with White/Oliver. Parts today can be purchased from Agco.
