This triple pocket ammo pouch was the standard infantryman’s ammo pouch of WWI. Each pocket holds two five round clips of ammo, and soldiers wore two of these, for a total of 60 rounds. It’s made of brown pebble grained leather, and the manufacturer’s stamp has become illegible, although the manufacture date of 1914 is still decipherable. These pouches were dyed black after 1916.

Also shown is the standard issue belt of the period, this one with the typical Prussian “Gott Mit Uns” buckle. Different German states produced different crests on their buckles. I’ve pictured the back of the belt and buckle to show how they come together. The original leather tongue which allows adjustment of belt size has disintegrated over the years and has been replaced with a new piece of leather.
