Art Deco butterfly wing reverse painted earrings probably 1930,s.
I bought this together with the pendant I just posted without knowing what it was. I have written more information in the other post and you are more than welcome to read more there.
I know this type of jewelry was made in England, USA and Brazil but would love some ideas about where these were maid. They are not marked though. I think the condition and quality is excellent.
yep.... these are just fantastic, the matching set for the pendant.. Thanks for sharing the complete set
I´m so happy for love from Manikin and from you Kerry10456! Thankyou for your nice comment.
Thank you pops52, Phil and aghcollect!!!
Thank you Valentino97!
Vetraio50 and Geo26e thanks!!
They really are exquisite Elisabeth!
My sister used to collect this like crazy! She then switched to Victorian hair jewelry and sold it all. She recently told me that she wishes she never parted with her butterflies. She had hundreds! Now onto cinnabar...I think
Thank you ever so much Racer4four, both for coment and 'love'!!
Thank you also AmberRose for 'love' and I must say your Sister had a lot of these. Sounds drastic to sell all of them, what a hard thing to do when you're a 'collector soul'. My problem is the oposite, it hard to get rid of things that might come in handy another day....
Don't understand the word ' cinnabar' I'm afraid.
Hi Elisabeth! We grew up with serious collectors, and changing interests so really not so unusual. I have changed direction myself a few times...but know this is years...not months. I think she started picking these up for .50 cents apiece in the 80s. Cinnabar...not the greatest example but...

Very nice post, thanks!
So now I know what to expect, that I will change direction further on :-). To be honest to myself I do have to admit I have already changed a bit since I found CW. I think I know what you mean, but I'm still impressed that she could do that. I hope this was understandable since it's 02.46 in the morning and I should sleep. Thanks again!
Blunderbuss2 thanks!
Thanks tom61375!
Thank you artdecogirl!
Well she did keep the cherry ones. I have flipped several collections. Sometimes I just get overwhelmed with it all. Or bored. Or something else catches my eye...fickle I know.
I see. Well there are a lot of temptations out there :-). I wish you good hunting in the future!
Sean, thanks!!
I started collecting Victorian jewellery but most of it was 'reinvested' as I switched to Arts & Crafts jewellery. But I collect all Arts & Crafts objects, my jewellery is one part of a larger collection. I tend to focus on a certain category of Arts & Crafts objects depending on prices & availability. Also, I'm pretty sure your wings are not English. They have a different type of mount.
Thank you tolate2 for 'love'.
Thanks Jewels1900 for your collectors history and your thoughts on my butterfly wings jewellry.
Thank you Michaeln544!
So very pretty!...:-)
Inky thank you!
Petey thanks!
Thankyou moonstonelover21!
Thank you tom61375!
Manikin thanks!
My mother had a pendant like this that she received from her older sister after a trip to Hawaii, as a souvenir. She was under the impression that they sold a lot of this type of jewelery in the 1940's and 50's as souvenirs of Hawaii at that it was made there. Maybe a clue? I still have two of the necklaces - one from my mother and one from another aunt. They always fascinated me!
Thankyou for your interesting coment travestine! I'm wondering if you saw my other post of the necklace, have you this type of clasp on your necklaces?
Ironic how we have so many like pieces. I'm thinking, "Oh you don't even know"! And you probably are too! lol I have even had these and was going to comment on them before by saying; I thought these were from the 70's, but I didn't want to put negative in here...And, since I'm opening my mouth about it, I was also under the impression that this is "foil" art jewelry??? Just my opinion, hope never to offend you!
Anyway, this is a really nice set. I only had one piece recently, not a set but remember them :)
Shareurpassion I've done quite a lot of research on these and I know they aren't 'foil', it's a poor butterfly who has lost it's wings :(... I'm still investigating the age and am hopeing someone will see the clasp on the necklace that I think might be a clue. I'm not offended :) I've asked for input. I have quite a detailed history on the person who owned these in the other post. From that I gather these at the latest would be from the 60's but the design, mount, painting and the owners life history tells me it's older but I don't have the full answer yet. Thanks for nice coment :)
Hi E, I just have to tell you, I saw some of these this weekend and I was totally mistaking on the "foil art" thought...I think I saw some listed that way about a year ago...anyway, yes they are butterfly wings. This lady that had them also thought they were earlier than the 70's also. Just wanted to let you know...
Sorry Shareurpassion, I only just saw this answer from you. That's kind of you to tell me :)
Thanks Jewels!
Thankyou PatSea!
