I bought this at a flea market for $35 in April. I am just now starting to work on it. The inside is a MESS but, in trying to remove that awful wallpaper someone put inside it, I found the pic and border and background paper underneath.

Can this info help assess the trunk's age? If anyone knows about these pics or lithographs or anything else that would identify its age, please let me know. The lock is a Yale and Town (broken of course and unuseable).

Also, I need advice on how to best preserve the original paper/border/picture. I was thinking of using decoupage on it and use a hair dryer to dry it quickly so the paper does not bubble or loosen. Any advice in that area would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so much

UPDATE: I have been working on this trunk. I managed to get 98% of the ugly 60s wallpaper off and used Rustoleum Satin finish polyurathane on the inside in an effort to preserve the original litho and paper/border. However, the bottom was so rotted and breaking apart that I ended up taking what was left of the bottom completely off the trunk. Those old nails have been a bear to remove.

I plan on building some sort of tray/cart with sides that are tall enough to cover up the jagged tin that is rusted and a real danger (cuts). I had to remove the tin plates at the bottom of the front and will re-use them in places where these plates should be but are missing. I will have to cut off the 1" extension of the slats at the bottom so that the trunk can stand upright and flat. The bottom will also have wheels or I may put "legs" on it.
