It looks expensive!! Looks a bit Jugendstil and egyptian revival to me.
    3. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 11 years ago
Is it green marbel? Might be something to investigate..

Sorry me again...had a look on the net for different types of marble. You have both connemara marble (Ireland) and Kålmården marble (Sweden) that you can look at. There might be more but these are known to have good green marble.

Google 'French empire desk' and you are in for a nice surprice. You can even try 'french empire oval valnut desk'....hope this is more than just a clue :-). Love the desk by the way! I think you maybe need to thank your friend again...

Are you there? If you think I'm right - grab a chair and sit down a then Google 'prices french empire desk'. Then maybe you should call your insurancecompany. I'm not an expert on furniture but I think this is a highquality piece. Let us know how this works out.

Yes antique rose but I see a few of them when searching, can't copy the links to CW with my mobile, Don't know why. They seam to be called neo-egymptian french empire desk as well. Thankyou antiquerose for exempel. I haven't found one with the green marble yet. But this must be it anyway.

      ??

Is that marble on the top.............or just padded colored leather??
    11. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 11 years ago
It looks like colored leather on the top. The pieces that look like green marble to me is in the front. Lovely desk I must say :-)

I would also like a friend like that, or to be able
To bre such a friend who could afford to give it away like that.

Thanks for all of the great input! I think the top is colored leather & the pieces on the side are green marble.

Absolutely beautiful! I want to get on his "friend list" too!
    17. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 11 years ago
It ofcourse needs to be looked at in real life by a trusted antique dealer who can value it. But just from the photos I think it has a lot going for it. If the marble is European, which I suspect it is, then I doubt this was made in the 80's. Let us know the result when you've had somebody look at it. :-)

Thanks to all of you! I will try to find someone to value it then see if anyone may be interested in buying. It is hard to part with such a beautiful piece of furniture but it does not go with anything in our beachy house & is a little out of place. Appreciate everyone's great input & assistance.

Can you post some pics of the inside/side of the drawers? Is it Dove-tail? Show any wear inside? Underneath? Have you looked for any marks on the back or the underside of the drawers?

      More pics would be Nice.....Thanks
