This bracelet belong to my grandmother. On the back of the square there is a crown and has JMC & Co. 18K gold. I am trying to see if it has any value. My mother recently died and she left me this. Like it says it is a bracelet and the one end slides into the square and a small knob tightens it down.

My condolences to you. Treasure it because it was your Mother's, however I don't think it has any significant value beyond that.

bbw, sorry to hear of the recent loss of you mom.

J.M.C. & Co. is the trademark for J. M. Chandler & Co., the factory located at 111 Broad Street, Providence, Rhode Island and their western office at 185 Superior Street, Cleveland, Ohio.

The plaque is 18K but there is a good possibility that the band is gold plated and would need to be tested by a professional. It's lovely and enjoy it since it's priceless to you.

Oops, forgot to state the advertisement was from the 1884 issue.

The company went into bankruptcy in October 1888 since the jewelry manufacturers and jobbers refused to sell goods to J. M. Chandler & Co.

The advert link clearly states that their line is Rolled Gold Plate and Warranted. The green corrosion and base metal showing through on each component, the lead solder, all tell my eyes that this piece is not gold.

Very accurate observations, TA. Thank you very much for correcting my statement above and being more thorough.

I see now --- in tiny print in the advertisement --- that it says:

"We have placed upon the market a fall line of goods possessing the novelty of being 18-k Rolled Gold Plate."
