I am seeking help to identify the maker of this doll ...actually, any information.

    DOLL NO. 56
    • Original Packaging: Not available
    • Age: Sometime prior to 1936
    • Markings: Handwritten “56” located at the base of the neck and on the bottom of the right foot. Writing appears to have been done in pencil.
    • Style: Cloth-and-Composition
    • Height: 26-inches (to be confirmed)
    • Condition: There is a degree of crazing all over. Composition of face has cracks, chips, exposing a 2nd layer of “painted face.” All painted fingers and toes accounted for. There is a circular crack around the skull (like she had brain surgery) and a gash on the crown.
    • Facial Features:
o There are two layers of painted facial features.
o Cloudy, dark glass-like sleep eyes
o Real upper eyelashes and painted lower lashes
    o Painted eyebrows
o Open, smiling mouth with two teeth showing and painted lips
    o Hair is painted
    • Clothing: Dress and bonnet is made of batiste and lace. The condition is significantly discolored. There are areas on the dress where the thread is visibly blue, so that may have been the original color of the dress. There are no tags and the seams appear to have been hand-sewn.

      Here I am Sean :-)
Your doll is called a Mama Doll .Quite common to find by many many companies , To narrow it down to one with out a symbol or mark on her other than 57 would be a guess to any one . Her face is typical to a Mama doll so no distinct feature to ID her . She would have a cloth body and a crier in her stomach and when squeezed or tipped it would make a sound that was supposed to sound a bit like Mama but actually it was more of a waaa sound . She is in very poor condition ,she could be restored by a pro but the cost would not warrent it unless she has a real sentimental value . It is quite costly do do a good restore not a porly done one . Dates 1920-30's .
