This very heavy clay ?? Vase?? Was found at the tip for £2.
It is a great looking item with its two handles and crackle glazed with what looks like enamel over the top in multi colours green, blues, whites , browns very heavily done , it looks quite old but dont think too old maybe 70s/80s.
it measures roughly 9"high x 7 1/2" wide & looks great on the corner display part of our kitchen , there aren't any potter marks visible so does anyone recognise this type of pottery ???

It's a nice glaze...looks like it should be a specialty for some company but I have no idea!

Thanx racer , its a very heavy vase and displays beautifully , seems to catch the light wherever we put it , dont think if it was actually made for use .. just decoration,

the shape is an old one from the teens - 40s, but it could have been made at anytime. i've been surprised at how old some of these bubbly, 'fat lava'-type glazes can be - even back to the 1890s or so. i think this one may be older than you think, but i'm not an expert.

Does anyone think it could be a German fat lava vase ??
As being on c/w I've seen a few with similar design but others are marked on the base , this one has no markings ???

Thank you paris1925 for your info , i dont know too much about this type of pottery & only buy if i like the look of things, i loved the look of this one & it displays well :-)

i disagree w/ the above assessment. i've seen some very good pottery w/ messy bases like this one. it's inevitable when working w/ these really thick and messy glazes. i also think the handles might be exaggerated, but on purpose. i would call it fat lava, for sure. maybe even earl fat lava. i'd post it on the facebook german pottery page. lots of experts there.
