ALLI KNOW ABOUT THIS CHAIR IS MY HUSBAND WAS ALLOWED TO SI IN IT 1 TIME AS A CHILD THERE IS A HAD WRITTEN DATE OF CHRISTMAS OF 1895. MOTHR IN LAW KEPT IT FREE OF SMOE AND CHILDREN .ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECITED
That would be a spool and spindle rocker which isn't terribly uncommon. However the press back is kind of odd to see. It seems to be a single pass press from what I can see. If your date is correct ( it looks about right) then it is probably from Sears or Larkin. Single pass were quite shallow. If it is in fact a Sears or Larkin it probably sold for around 65 cents when it was new. If you leave it as it is and research it I think you will see a little more value today.
thank you all the info is important to us.
Sears catalog archives are online right now but they are headed back to bankruptcy so research it soon. Larkin may be a bit more difficult. I would sooner think this was a Sears product because Larkin had a deeper more pronounced impression. There were obviously others in the business but that would put you around 1908 period.
