Just got this at an estate sale today. I think it must be a US war vets travel case. Anyone know the symbols branch, meaning and years of usage ? Probably WW2 era but not sure. The gentleman was 90 years old and recently passed away.

Funny but I have the exact same suitcase without the insignia painted on.

As near as I can figure, that's the insignia of the Army Ground Forces Replacement Depot. They processed overseas replacement personnel during WWII.

Thanks for finding that for me. Looks like the right one. I tried searching but couldn't come up with it. Think I'll go back to the place tomorrow and see if any of the family knows if that's what he did in the war.

Turns out he was in the Battle of the Bulge with the 106th Inf., their insignia was this ball design with a facing lion head in the middle. Must have just never got around to the finer more difficult painting of the lions head.
