So weird! This is an articulated beast (bat? baby Dracula??) skull, mounted as a pendant with silver trim. WEASEL!!!

You can notice the red velvet tongue, and the sharp teeth!

Skull itself is 2cm high 1,3cm wide, longest superior canine 8mm!!!

    3. vetraio50 vetraio50, 10 years ago
      ....... or a bat?
    4. AnneLanders AnneLanders, 10 years ago
pretty disgusting IMHO no matter what animal that someone would make jewellery like this...and yes I don't wear fur and I have no ivory....sorry but this is awful...
    5. AnneLanders AnneLanders, 10 years ago
ok well thst went down like a lead balloon...us Aussies arent afraid to say how we feel...I in no wish to offend kyra...its just me personally, that's me with an opinion thinks this item is not only awful to look at but really am awful way to display the death of an animal...in an item of jewellery to be warn on display in this manner...that is all...and kyra, apologies if you feel Ive overstepped the mark it was just my immediate reaction...
    6. kyratango kyratango, 10 years ago
Anne, you didn't offend in anyway!

I totally agree with you, but this is a past times document.

Victorians were bizarre enough to wear earrings made from stuffed humming birds, brooches from otter paws and tigerclaws, or butterflies wings!

I collect too mourning jewellery made from human hair, and I can swear I never killed an human beeing to get his scalp ;-)

Vetraio, it would be the tiniest cat EVER!!!

I must say the Victorians I knew of did not have houses of things like this...yes they collected animal interest and were fascinated in taxidermy...but this is grotesque and tonight I will have nightmares...lol...but there you go..

Kev it was more likely to be a mouse or a rat, bat etc...

UUHHH... this is not roddent teeth, but blood thirsty animal who will come sip your blood in your sleep, MOUHAHA (sorry, dear, kidding you! wish you have the sweetest night, really!)

      Love the MOUHAHA Kyra!
I can understand Anne's aversion but as you say a past document, and man it says a lot about that time!
    10. antiquerose antiquerose, 10 years ago
Love this.....and a weird thing from the past.

yes the Victorians did a lot of weird things. I would not wear it, but there ARE collectors out there that go wild for things like this.

I think it might be a bat???

Great Post...is it marked? Who is the maker, or the date? Can we see the hallmarks?

      Thanks Super POST !!!

I've seen these little mounted jaws before in Germany. But I've no idea what animal they came from. Also, the Germans made lots of deer teeth jewellery.

The English made jewellery from grouse's claws. Queen Victoria had jewellery made from her children's baby teeth (a bracelet I think). All sorts of weird & wonderful stuff.
