Among my mourning hair collection, I wanted to share the victorian large swivel brooches.
My favorite is the good little devil in the two first pics!
So malicious looking I secretly wish this was only a "souvenir" of his or her's (at this time, little boys were dressed in girls till their 6!) first hair cut!
Of course some creepy beasts came among :-/
Thanks Manikin, aghcollect and Newtimes for your loves :-)
Its adorable! I really think its a girl, look at her face! She must be 3-4 years old. She doesn't look malicious, she looks absolutely cute! She remindes me of my youngest daughter, who is also 4 years old. She puts the same face on when she knows she did something wrong ;-)
Thanks Phil, I love your comment! ;-))
Just notice photograph and parents weren't afraid to sit such little child on top of high pedestal, LOL!
Hi kyrantango. I'm not entirely certain but I think the Prince of Wales hair designs in your brooches is a love token. Not mourning. I've never really gotten into the 'language' of hair jewellery.
Love your little girl, she's good fun. It's possible her mum was holding her & is hidden underneath her dress. Have you ever seen those old photos of children where the mother is hidden under a blanket or sheet?
Ouf, Jewels! If mom was hidden to hold her baby, what a relief! (never seen that!)

Thanks to the 8 new lovers! :-))
Back at that time people had to sit sometimes over an hour before the photo was taken ...this is sweet love hair jewelery
Be photographied was a memorable and exceptional event, not a lot could afford!
Thanks nitty for your kind comment :-)
I really want to love mourning jewelry but it just makes me sad. My sister collects it and finds it sweet.
Amber, to love them, just keep in sight they witness love...
When some people says me (horrified):
"you wear antique jewelry? It come from dead people!"
I answear :
"Yes, but it was cherished and transmitted to us in order to be living again! Old houses saw death too, sad moments, dramas and lots of happiness too, though are still inhabited! THAT'S LIFE"
Very, very nice pieces. Than ks for sharing.
Thak you so much MrsWarren!
Thanks Manikin for your love:-)
