I picked up this very large and HEAVY vase at Urban Ore in Berkeley yesterday. It stands 20" tall and 16" wide. i love the glaze and the sculptural relief of the peonies. I don't think it's old, but i'm not sure when it was made or anything about it except that it is much heavier than it looks. i'd love to know more about it.
beautiful!!
Bottom 3 Chinese characters says 'Town of King Tak' - where it was made.
Wow what a great find ! It might be older than you think although not hundreds of years. It's incredibly beautiful !
thank you Sean68, geo268 and mikelv85! i think it's really beautiful too.
Your very welcome ho2 :)
thank you for that info, geo26e! very helpful info. let me know if you figure out any more of it out.
yes nutsabotas6! big, very heavy and GORGEOUS! i didn't know that pottery made today could be so spectacular - the shape, texture and COLORS!
I love the colors. Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. Unfortunately ants love them too, so I rarely cut them for a bouquet as I don't want the ants in my house.
Mary ......Did you know that peonies actually need the ants to bloom ? The buds produce nectar and they swarm the bud which helps it to open. Help is the subjective term here. Don't know if that's just and old wives tail but, that's what I remember being told . Anyway that's why they're all over the flowers. Damp coffee grounds around the base of the plants are suppose to keep them to a minimum.
i wish i could find something about this pot - anything!
i read where the town of King Tak is in Hong Kong. Does anyone know when pieces from Hong Kong were marked 'Made in China'?
