I got this at a thrift store for a buck or two. I sanded it and decided to keep matches in it, as my garage tends to get very damp. Then I cut out the part you strike the matches on and glued it to the bottom of the box. Perfect!
There really needs to be a catagory for wood, or treasure boxes or something.
The top wood/veneer I would probably say "snake wood" if here. That's a generalization for woods here & of course would take a hands on look to check wood tone, density etc.. Looks to be veneered ply by the pics..
No, it's not veneer. I am new to woodworking, and don't know what kind of wood it is, but I have sanded and sanded, and it is NOT veneer. It's kind of heavy, just a nice plain box.
