french victorian religioux crucifix

this isa part of my religious art collection, i'm not believing in godsetc... but i definitely love religious items, with interesting stories to tell, lot of symbols...thats the most interesting thing.

the oldest on ( on the left) is made in the late 18th cent. early 19th cent. it could be reconised with the two nails on feets. in later 19th cent, it was only one....

for thies crucifix it was usually used pear tree wood, with black lacker, somtimes with bone or ivory decoration. ( you can see in close up pctures, bone parts.)

in some crusifix you can see somtime a skull , it is called "Golgotha"

Calvary, also Golgotha /???l????/, was, according to the Gospels, a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was crucified. Golgotha is the Greek transcription in the New Testament of an Aramaic term that has traditionally been presumed to be Gûlgaltâ (but see below for an alternative). The Bible translates the term to mean place of [the] skull, which in Greek is ??????? ????? (Kraníou Tópos), and in Latin is Calvariæ Locus, from which the English word Calvary is derived.
