Picked up this beautiful cobalt blue rooster dish at Volunteer's of America a couple of days ago. I had been trying to ID it when lo and behold "antiquerose" posted her amber one. What a coincidence ! It's in perfect condition too. The top lifts off the footed base to store all kinds of goodies ! -Mike-

    L.E. Smith Glass Company History

Smith Glass has been crafting handmade, American-pressed glass since 1907, and today, is one of only a handful of American hand-made glass factories remaining. Known for creating the first headlight lens for the Model T Ford, and the original glass mixing bowl, Smith Glass is known for nostalgic favorites, as well as new contemporary designs.
The company’s high-quality pieces play an important role in the tabletop, giftware, and lighting industries. Like all the other glass companies of the time, L.E. Smith began producing colored glass in the mid 1920’s. Pink, green, amber, yellow, amethyst and cobalt were being made as early as 1926. But in the late 1920’s, Smith Glass hit upon a formula for black glass that set it apart from other manufacturers of the time. This black glass, which shows amethyst when held up to a light, has proved to be the most collected in the industry.
