My husband and I just purchased this antique chest from a couple who purchased it at a Landrum, SC Antique store several years ago. The dealer said it came from a summer home estate in mountains, near Cashiers, NC (near Lake Glenville). That area was known for wealthy people to "summer", to escape the heat of areas such as Charleston, SC, etc. Antique guy said it dates to early 1800’s, or earlier. Top was probably replaced in early 1800’s, and rest could be even earlier. The only mark I could find was on the inside on the front panel, a paper that is terribly worn and pretty much illegible, but maybe someone can recognize it. There is a mix of woods, and top looks to be tiger wood. It is very large (69"L x 33"H x 22"D), and very heavy. Anyone have any ideas about the origin/date/craftsmanship style, etc.? Thanks!
