I dug this up on my property in Marion, FL. I'm wondering what this tool is.
Dimensions are 6 1/4" long x about 1/2"wide on the right and 1/4" on the left. Question is - which is the business end of this tool?
On the left are some ridges that look like they might be for keeping the tool
locked into a handle. On the right side of the tool though are three rivets
that appear to have made up a handle of sorts. So, I could see either end being the "handle". It just doesn't seem like the right side would be the tool end, but I don't know that. I wondered if the left hand ridged end were some type of leather working tool or something. This is one of three items I've found in my field. What I'm most interested in, is what era they are. I will post pictures of the other two items as well.
I'm hoping some tool expert will recognize this.

This looks like it might be a horse tooth float or file , google search this in images and see if you agree.

That's sort of where I got the idea that it might be a file or rasp for people rather than horses. I had thought that 6 1/4" was too short to be a horse float, but I don't know much about them either. Do you know if that length is used sometimes for horses? Seems when I see them online, they're fairly long.
Interesting that you're from Lake County. I lived in Mentor for five years during the late sixties; back in the days of Leroy Kelly and Bo Scott.

      Hi Rustfarm,
it occurred to me after reading my reply that it doesn't make sense. Since posting this, I had also come upon the horse float and updated another forum where I'm asking the same question. So, you came to the same guess that I did except for the length question. Thanks for replying.
