I don't know too much about this figural sculpture yet. It is signed H & F Moreau. It has a little damage on it (tip of wing broken, arm on man broken off), but still love it. I bought it today at a small flea market benefiting the local Humane Society. My plan is to put it on a plant stand in my front parlor.

A beautiful statue and money well spent to benefit the Humane Society. :-)

Probably signed "L & F Moreau," not "H & F." Looks like it's spelter and lost all of the bronze patination. Also is missing the base. Subject is an angel with a horn.

Two brothers, Louis Auguste (1855-1919) and Hippolyte Francois (1857-1930) Moreau, formed a studio in France to produce spelter copies of their individual bronze scupltures.

A spelter statue that is 29 inches high from a 2012 auction. The lot was passed.

Spelter is a zinc alloy and often referred to as "French bronze." From Kovels:

Thanks for the info solver. Sure helps. Would be nice to have it repaired. Not sure if I will yet. Again, thanks for the info.

Actually there were 3 brothers. Mathurin Moreau was the most famous and a lot of his sculpture did not have to be vetted as he was given a special title that he was "beyond competion". I show one of my bronze Math Moreau sculptures on this site. I love yours and you are lucky the trumpet is there !~
