I went to the Cleveland GW to see what was left after the sticker color change madness yesterday. Didn't see much of anything "new" but this piece was still there pushed to the back of the bottom shelf. I looked at it and figured it was 30's art pottery but wasn't sure of the maker. There was a small chip in the rim and one in the handle but I remembered I had points saved up so what the heck. A couple of dollars was a good deal. The marks on the bottom are clear but there isn't a name. A quick check online showed this to be a George Rumrill design/ Shawnee pottery vase from 1938. The images online were one that was for sale on Ebay. Which looks like this one but may not be made by Redwing as they stated in their description. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-c1936-Rumrill-Red-Wing-Art-Deco-Vase-Matte-White-Double-Handled-EXCELLENT-/170764832257) It measures 10" tall and 7" across the handles. I love the soft ivory colored matte glaze and the form is beautiful. It's lightly crazed all over and as I mentioned has two small chips, but it's a keeper ! -Mike-

Its a George Rumrill design, but not produced by Redwing. The double "r" marking (with one r reversed) indicates it was made by Shawnee Pottery. Rumrill's association with Shawnee began in April of '38 and lasted less than a year.
After the spilt with Shawnee, Florence Pottery Co., and then Gonder, produced for Rumrill.

Thanks artpottery...I do seem to remember reading about his affiliation with the other companies. I have a couple of Gonder pieces too. Shawnee is not so bad it's still his design which is what I really like about it.
