This is a small footed bowl in a black matte glaze, that also came from a Seattle Estate sale. It measures 2 1/2" high X 5 1/2" in diameter. It looks like a red clay judging from the unglazed bottom of the foot. This piece also has a signature but because it was glazed over it is really hard to read. I took a couple of shots of the signature from different angles, hoping it might make it a little more legible. It looks to me like Spener, or possibly Spencer.
Most of the pottery from this collection seemed to be a bit better than your run-of-the-mill stuff and most of it looks to be hand made. I am hoping someone out there may recognize the signature and be able to help me identify the artist and the time frame it was made. A long shot of course, but stranger things have happened! Thank you.
very nice!!
Identified!!! Art.Pottery commented on one of the other unmarked pieces I put on here and suggested Ralph or Lorene Spencer - and that indeed is what this bowl is. Many thanks Art.Pottery
