Im thinking of purchasing this restored trunk from an antique shop.

They are asking quite a bit for it, $300, which I dont intend to offer, but thats not my question.

As I mentioned its obviously been restored. Inside tray is missing, and its been painted on the inside as well. There are what look like brass chains holding the lid, which I would intend to replace with something that looks more to the period.

My concern is, how much did painting the interior truly depreciate its value?

Im not looking to turn this around, I will keep it for storage of bedding, but I still want to get something that would still hold value.

    Any thoughts?

You are in the ball park range for value -- looks like a nice trunk, and the value will hold over time.... enjoy!

At least it wasn't lined with old wallpaper.

The term for this trunk is refinished not restored. Anytime the canvas has been removed , stain and probably polyurethane applied it must be considered as refinished. This is a very common trunk and many were produced The lion head lid lifter in place of a good 1900's period lock does not add value, it detracts. The additional wooden piece that it is bolted through is not original as well. the interior paint appears to be painted over paper (possibly original), thus the bubbling.
As for value ,that depends on the pockets of the buyer present and future. Good luck and welcome .
