0.518 grams of fresh ovary in every pill!
Found this at Brimfield this past month and was (and still am) intrigued. I've been doing some research and found that Reed & Carnrick was a NJ pharmaceutical company specializing in endocrine therapy medications. This particular med, Ovacoids, was meant to treat women for ovarian hypofunction, or loss of normal ovarian function. Seems logical enough -- replace your lost ovarian function by swallowing some more ovary, maybe extracted from a bovine or goat.
Did it work? I don't know. But, according to a 1942 Journal of the National Medical Association ad, R & C had a whole line of these hormone therapies, including Testacoids (you know what that's for), Panacoids, Thyracoids, and other "gonadal tonics."
I don't know how old this particular bottle is, but it's still full of pills. I will not be trying them.
