I suspect that this Black Amethyst Compote could be Czech but I haven't been able to find a similar one. The black amethyst is evident in her wrap especially beside her neck. The wrap goes from the lower base, hides part of her "derriere" and reattaches under the cup section at the back of her head. She is holding up the cup section of the compote with her arms. It has been cold-painted (after firing) with red & green flowers and measures 9 1/2" to the top of the finial. Cambridge Glass and other N. American glass manufacturers made similar Deco nude glassware items but I haven't been able to find this exact shape. Have you ever come across this Deco Lady. RER(BOB)

Art Deco 'Carrie' Powder Jar is what I find. "CARRIE is shown on page 39 of Whitmyer - Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Years."
Thanks TallCakes! Is it N. American or Czech as I assumed and any year of manufacture mentioned? Thank you also aghcollect and mikelv85 for the love. RER(BOB)
all places where I found references didn't indicate the glass maker. One piece at chataboutdg mentioned pieces marked Taussaunt to have the Dermay label.

I have this same item….I was using it as a candle vase/holder. I beleive I collected it from my Grandmother's basement or attic…I have been searching high and low to try to find out exactly what it is and it's origin. Now I see that mine is lacking it's cover/top =( Yours is PERFECT! LOVE IT! Oh well! Still like my candle holder =)
So, after my original post, I did more research… found a bit more out about this jar/dish. Evidently it was made by L.E. Smith glass co. and is called "Carrie". Evidently, some of these were manufactured later on (after the originals) with out the cover as a tall comport/compote. I believe the one I have is older because it is black… I went to the L.E. Smith replacement site and they will email a list of replacement items they have in stock and prices… Here is where I found the ad info: http://www.kandmantiques.com/Articles/HumanPowderJars/pages/Carrie.html
THANK YOU StylinSue! I appreciate your help and especially your link. Now we know for sure. BOB
Hi BOB, she's gorgeous. I like the (uranium?) green one too & that pink vase with the trees at the back, all lovely.
Thanks Fran!
