It has June 14, 1881 stamped on the inside of the mechanism. It isnt working and has been inside my grandmother's house for longer than anyone can remember. Any help identifying a model type and value would be greatly appreciated since I will be selling it so someone can enjoy a piece of history.

Thanks......There is a mark on the front face under the one hand, looks like a diamond shape. Can you get a pic of that for us?

The more i talk it over with my wife, the more we are leaning toward keeping the clock - which begs the question......If i mediablast it to remove the old paint, and re-paint it a bronze color, will thatndestroy the value? Also, any recommendations for clock repair in south florida? Appreciate any feedback

Just get it working is all I would do...............I like character, but again that is only my thoughts on it
Antiquerose is absolutely correct! Clean the dirt and dust with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner only. Blasting and painting it WILL destroy the value to a collector. Lower demand, lower price. Since you're considering selling it, I won't get into value. However, you have an Ansonia model called the "Orienta" from circa 1894. Perhaps that will help you with your market research. Just an additional note to be clear: the model name is "Orienta" NOT "Oriental". Don't know how rare it is, but it doesn't appear to be common. Ansonia made a number of clocks in this general design. If you find one or more Ansonia collectors who value this metal clock you could do okay. It does have an open escapement movement which is always a big plus. If you have any other questions, let the Board know, otherwise please indicate within your listing that your Mystery is "Solved". Thanks.
I will absolutely mark as solved -- thanks much for the info. I will definitley not repaint if that will affect it. I obviously have no experience with antique clocks and could use some advice on how best to get it fixed. After hearing it is rare, we decided to keep it and get it working. One of the gears was loose and off and another piece of metal was also separated from the workings....definitely need a professional to check it out. I tried to google the clock and found nothing....so it must be rare after all. I also tried to google south florida antique clock repair and there seems to be several (some with websites). Any list of questions i should get answers to before hiring a repairman so i can ensure they are professional and will do a good job?

I have no experience with any of them, but they've been in business for while and are certified by various organizations.
Word-of-mouth is one of the best resources. Antique dealers usually know skilled people in the business of restoring and servicing antiques.

Bruce99 - would you be abke to tell me how you knew the model? I cant find any info on it at all.....An I want to know as much as possible before taking it into a repairshop. Also, any questions I should ask a repairman to make sure they know what they are doing? Seems like there are only a few shops in the surrounding cities
I found your model in noted authority Tran Duy Ly's reference book on Ansonia Clocks and Watches. You want to make sure they have experience working on antique clocks such as yours. They should be able to completely dismantle the clock, clean and service it (including the mainsprings), reassemble, lubricate, adjust and fully test it before returning it to you. These are not complicated movements, you just want to make sure that the "overhaul" is going to be done properly with no "dunk and swish" shortcuts. Hope that helps. Gotta run.
