    4 lbs., 9.5" x 8", iron. Has 3 "feet". "SAS" imprint. Handle does not fold, but can be pried off. Found at Deep South estate sale, in the kitchen. What is it?

      I never saw a trivet with a bail handle like this across the top. The bottom view looks like it would leave an imprint or design if it was hot and pressed down on something. Wouldn't take much heat to burn a logo into a bail of cotton or tobacco. I wonder if this might have been for branding?

      Mystery solved! The JennAir oven/stove/grill has 2 of these insert plates beneath the heating elements of the grill. Thanks to the discussion participants at chow. com for their input!
