I know nothing about the Sculptor who created this wonderful carved Bone handle & Sheath Knife since I picked this up in a neighborhood garage sale yesterday and the seller couldn't tell me anything other than it was purchased in Northern Quebec. It has "#6 J.P. AUBRY, SCULPTEUR 92" etched on the blade so the creator is probably Native or of Native descent. The quality of the carving, the wooden inner sheath and the leather outer-sheath denotes a highly skilled person. He has truly exemplified the beauty and force of the Eagle in this Knife. The bone is probably Moose or Deer. It is a large knife that measures almost 14" with an 8" blade that is 1 1/2" wide. It was never used. When you grasp the handle of this knife, the Eagle head fits comfortably in your hand and it becomes part of your hand. I would have loved to have met and talked with Mr. Aubry at the time that the knife was sold. I wonder if he ever made depictions of other animals in his knives. RER(BOB)

      Dear Bob,
I found an artist named Jean Pierre Aubry but no luck with sculpture. There is no one by that name, J.P. Aubry listed in the Index of Canadian Artists (Visual Arts) by François Lareau Not much help but it is all I know.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

Thank you Lisa for your Research. It was 22 years ago that he made this knife so he may be flying with the Eagle spirits now. He was an artist in my book. BOB
