Picked up this nice little 6" x 5" in diameter tea caddy at Volunteer's of America this afternoon. I love the carp swimming among the aquatic plants. It looks hand painted. The pictures came out really white but the background is actually a pale Celadon green. The photos of the bottom show the true color both inside and out. The mark is almost certainly decorative as this piece doesn't look old at all. Gotheborg, com says : Mark # 382" Da Qing Qianlong" - "Great Qing Dynasty Qianlong Period"(1736-1795). Used in the late 20th century. The mark appears to be next to identical to those used in Hong Kong in the 1960-70's, but in this case, in underglaze blue. Still a great piece in perfect condition. -Mike-
Thanks Ken :)
Perfect tea caddy! Nice painting on this.
Thanks Karen :)..A tea caddy ! There you go ...I was at a loss as to what to call it. It really isn't a jar per se. A canister not really, makes me think of metal, but tea caddy is perfect !
