I've stumbled on this big one and thought it looked rather unusual in terms of format and design. Thin slats, tall, robust yet stylish. The orangish color somewhat hints at a more recent staining but I can't tell from when and where this trunk originates. Besides its Korean name, not much info!

Is it a rare find or a complete dud ? Comments much appreciated!

    Thanks.

Beautiful highly sought after oak slat trunk... tung oil it well and it will stand out.. this would be a rare model of one -- have not seen this type. I think it is a bit newer than most of the ones made, perhaps early 1900's. Look up oak slat trunk and you will see examples, including one I have on my post for comparison... Welcome to Collector's Weekly! Rare find and not a dud by any means...

Thank you so much for the very quick reply, appreciated. Well.. I'll have to move to a bigger home! I wanted to mainly focus on dome/barrel trunk pre 1900s but this one caught my attention because it seemed unusual and had a certain je ne sais quoi.

Would you strip the current varnish/stain or leave as is and just apply a fresh coat of tung oil ?

Yes I would strip off the old varnish and then tung oil the cr_p out of it. Tung oil gives a nice luster to oak. There are a few oak slat trunks on this site -- I think you type in the word in the search bar... or something.. You have a good eye to pick this one up.
