German Black Forest Tobacco Humidor Pipe Rack / Hand Carved Wood Renaissance Design / Unknown Age

Saw this on the front counter at GW before I walked to the back and saw the silver flatware case. I looked at it and since it was right by the register I decided to buy it. Sort of a last minute impulse. I knew what it was and I thought it looked very old and the style appealed to me. The hand carved wood has two Renaissance gentlemen's profiles on each side which are different. An added bonus, there were two pipes inside. One corn cob meerschaum and a little burled walnut one. The humidor box is detached from the base. There were four tiny conical screws holding it on but they're missing. The wood has split a little on the boxes bottom so they weren't gripping and probably fell out. An easy fix. There's a disc in the top that says "Aztec" and to add water to it when the color changes. So that's how a humidor stays humid ! Quite a neat piece and the one I saw on Ebay sold for a good price. Not sure of it's age. It wasn't mentioned in the auction. Maybe early 20th century. -Mike-
