We've had these Ruby fine-ribbed items for over twenty years, ever since we bought them at a country estate auction. I always assumed that they were FENTON "SHEFFIELD" pattern items but after looking them up in many reference books, I was never able to find a listing/reference to a 7 3/8" by 4 1/4" tall bowl. There is a 10" plate listed. If they are Fenton Sheffield, it would date them 1936-1938. The Ruby color is almost iridescent. Was there a bowl this size made by Fenton in Ruby Sheffield? Solved!! They are Made by IMPERIAL GLASS, Pattern # 779 in Ruby

Are they Villeroy and Boch?, haven't done any research they just look like some of their styles.
And the shape is a little Scottish too....lol...I have no idea tonight but they are lovely..
Thank you AnneLanders! Did Villeroy & Boch make this type of Design?. The Auction was held at an old Country Farm estate....the elderly couple had been placed in a Nursing Home. I would think that Elegant Glass would be accurate since they are better quality than Depression Glass. BOB

My first "guess" is Anchor Hocking, Queen Mary (Prismatic Line) "Vertical Ribbed" 1936-1949 made in pink, crystal and some ruby red. But I don't know of a bowl with those dimensions either.
Second guess is a toss up between several of Federal Glass's vertical patterns.??
I looked at that pattern too but the pattern in the center of the plates is not the same. The quality of the glass is way better in these items. My main question is: Is it Fenton? Thanks for your input wksgibson, RER(BOB)

Re the "iridescent":
"A few pieces, such as the rose bowl in the photo have been found with an iridescent finish." Page 276 - Fenton Art Glass 1907-1939 - 2nd Edition - Whitmyer.
They look like Sheffield to me.
Have you checked with the Facebook Fenton group?
Yes, the plate is 10". I have the first edition of Whitmyer's Fenton Art Glass which does not mention Iridescent Ruby in a Rose Bowl. Could this 7 3/8" wide bowl be a Rose Bowl? I am not on Facebook but it would be great if they could have a look at these items. It looks like Sheffield to me too but it's the bowl that throws a loop. Thanks for your input Parkerhouse. The bowl is "cupped" correct?
And, no, that bowl is not a rose bowl. They are round, like a ball.

it might help to have a side profile shot of the bowl (from with side to show the full profile of the bowl including the bottom). It does not look cupped to me, as cupped typically means the rim is rolled in toward the center of the bowl. The pics looks like sloped sides.

Yes Villeroy and Boch did a few items similar but I'm not an expert. They made very heavy red glass items. I'll have a browse and see but the other posters might be closer with an American maker...will see...:)

the last pic is at an angle and a bit dark for me to make out the shape/profile of the bowl. The camera needs to be at the same level with the bowl

BOB, I think this may be Imperial Glass #779 Empire. Both the bowl and plate are in the catalog matching the profile and dimensions.
As Professor Higgins once said to Lisa Doolittle: "By George, I think you've got it". I do have the Trilogy books of Imperial Glass and YES, that is what they are. They date from the 1930's like the Sheffield (Fenton) pattern does. It states that it was one of Imperial Glass Co's best seller in the 30's. Thanks again for this Fine Research, BOB
