This is a gorgeous chair that I own but know nothing about.
It has no markings of any sort about who manufactured/made it or when.
It looks as if there was a wood covering under the bottom of the seat, but is know gone(maybe that is where the label or stamp or whatever was.)
It is so interesting, I could imagine it being used at a ladies writing desk because it is not overly big.
I have been thinking of changing the seat material and maybe even painting it, but I do love it just the way it is as well and don't want to take away from it's mystery.
If someone could help that would be wonderful.
Thanks so much.
This chair is very interesting - based on wood carvings, probably imported. From the close-up of the wood, it looks original and that it has some age so don't paint it! In fact, don't touch the finish except to dust it - messing with original finishes cuts their value very substantially. That classic design originated in France I believe, long ago, but has been used in modified versions over the years. Maybe it came out of a French colony? I'd invest some research time in this one.
