Letter of Authenticity
The American League's MVP in 1976, a three-time Gold Glove Award recipient and named to
seven Junior Circuit All-Star squads, Thurman Munson held a title of New York Yankees Team
Captain. . A determined leader, and close friend, whose tenure in pinstripes coincided with the
team's return to glory, Munson helped guide the Bronx Bombers to three successive pennants
(1976-1978) and a pair of World Series titles before his tragic felling in 1979.
Offered is a 1977 New York Yankees jacket worn by the revered backstop during his
abbreviated career.
This navy blue, heavy stretch-knit button -down garment features the team's "NY" logo sewn to
the left breast in white-on-blue double tackle twill. With two cotton-lined front pockets, the jacket
is highlighted by 4"-diameter Yankees team logo patch on the left shoulder plus blue-and-white
striped stretch ribbed cotton along the collar, waistline, and sleeve endings. A laundering
instructions tag is sewn within the right seam and, within the collar, an "ALADEN"
manufacturer's label that bears a faded, handwritten notation of "15." The jacket also features "
flap tag and a chain-link hanger. Moderate wear is evident, with puckering about the "NY"
identifier. Originally obtained by me , KEN CLAY - Teammate and from Yankees “ Clubbie” and
legend Pete Sheehy as well as then equipment manager Manager Nick Priore on October 18,
1977 after we had won the World Series!
