Golden Fleece oil tins

My collection Golden Fleece quart tins from the 1950s and 1960s.

Golden Fleece was a brand of petroleum products and service stations (petrol stations as we call them in Australia). Golden Fleece was operated by H C Sleigh a shipowner who started out in 1893. They started importing motor sprit into Australia from the US in 1913 and marketed under the Golden fleece name. They started with their first petrol pump in 1920. The classic era of Golden Fleece was the post war period till taken over by Caltex in 1981.

The Golden Fleece station in the post war years were quite distinctive and included in many cases a roadhouse, the first roadhouses in Australia.

Golden Fleece tins and oil bottle are the most sought after petroliana among Australian collectors.
