Back in 1968 I vividly remember the "Mr. President Coin Game." When motorists filled up the tank at a Shell Gas Station, they were given a little aluminum coin that was sealed in a shrunk wrapped paper container. This was to ensure that no body was able to cheat and view the coins prior to them being given to the motorist. Back in the 1960's, I lived in Chicago, IL and while walking home from Dawes School (K-8th grade), my brothers and I would find many these coins along side Hamlin Avenue which were thrown out of the windows of the motorists (my assumption being, they were duplicates and not needed). Anyway, my brothers and I would pick them up and bring them home. Long story short, now 46 yeas later, it still have this little treasure-trove of coins. I recall even stopping into the Shell Gas Station on the corner of 79th Street & Hamlin Avenue, and asking the station attendant for a coin or two (they always said "yes"). Back then I was in in 4th grade; however, I still remember the catchy jingle Shell used to promote this contest which went like this:
"It' the Mr. president Coin Game, at Shell
Here's what they're winning, at Shell
$5,000, at Shell."
Memories are wonderful....
