Whereas Open Salts required A salt spoon, Harry Atkins of Atkins Bros Silversmiths patented these as salt pourers. The open salt tipped and the salt poured out the the small spout. They are silver, dated 1912 Sheffield . The design no. 555684 was registered in 1910-1911. The seller J.W.Benson was a well known Jeweller, famous for his watches. Atkin Bros patented another pourer with the Reg. No. 555685 a more rounded bulbous shape and also made a creamer in the same shape. This pattern (555685) seems to be more frequently found and often dated 1909 so I assume they made it for a couple of years before registering the pattern. I have not found another pair like my 555684 set despite searching quite a bit. No other silversmiths made salt pourers like this that I can ascertain.
As for the initial engraved on it, a J, that was a bonus as it is my initial.
They are really special.
Welcome from another New South Welshman (woman)!
