This is Composition Bride doll with what I believe is a Wendy Ann face (red hair, blue eyes) She was my mother's growing up. ( in the late 30's , early 40s) She has original socks and shoes but my mother made the dress. I believe she is about 14" tall. Mom was sure this was her hair style, but I can't find any bride with hair like this. I would like to find a reference so that I can replace her gown with an authentic one. I think she is 1930's. Maybe Sally bride? I can't find a photo reference anywhere. Please help me identify her.
Is she marked on back of neck ? Her dolls were always marked either MME or Alex or Alexander . First we have to decide if she is a madame Alexander . Her face looks like Wendy but other companies also made faces close to Wendy's
Her hair should look like this if she is marked .
It should be mohair hard to tell on your photo but you get once chance to style it as it will shed a lot . You can put curlers in it but do not get her face wet . I dampen my fingers and dab it on hair . It also helps the dryness of hair . Then but a hairnet on her . Let me know if she is marked ok like this one . Also are you sure she came dressed as a bride originally ?

She is marked MME Alexander. I am pretty sure she was always a bride. My cousin played with her before I was born and both she and Mom remember her as a bride. She did come in a long white dress (to me) and since it was scorched from being ironed, Mom made a new one. The original was lost during a move. I do believe it is mohair and as soon as it came back to us, Mom said she would fix her hair the way it was. This is what she did. I have been unable to find any bride from that period with a hairstyle that is similar. I am estimating her height as well. Mom was born in 1935, so when I did research, there was a 1947 red haired bride (which would make mom 14...this seems old). I really just want to ID her and try to get an original outfit for her. She is the first of our collection and holds a special place. Thanks for your help.
I am not aware of any Wendy Bride her size that ever had that hairdo or any Madame Alexander doll. The only ones were in hard plastic from the Little women series . She is not one of them . Now her dress would have been tagged if original to her since many girls wanted Bride dolls in the era of her and into the 50's she may have got a Bride dress bought for her as that was common size to find in a off brand . The 18 inch Wendy Bride sometimes did have a curl in front of hair . I did a lot of Hair for dolls and the style it is in now since I can' see back is not like ay I ever saw so it is possible she doesn't quite remember exactly ? If you style like she did just follow her lead and use a wide tooth comb a small amount of hair at a time and get it fluffy again and all strays in place. She will be special always no matter what . To bad no childhood photo of her , her mother may have fixed her hair that way also ? But One I posted earlier is the style of Wendy's hair. The red head you saw may have been made from 30's to 40's . These were toys and mass produced so sometimes on assembly line a different wig could have been used . They were meant to be toys and no one thought they would become collectible in that era there was no collectible craze . They were just toys and many were thrown out :-(

Does she have a swivel waist ?
Thank you for your advice. I will probably leave it styled as is. She does not have a swivel waist. She is composition and I'm guessing from the late 30s or early 40's given that my mom was a child then. She was played with well. First by my mom, then my cousins. My cousin gave her to me after she found the doll in her mother's basement. To my knowledge, there are few pictures of my mom as a child, forget trying to find one of her with the doll :( Maybe I need to remeasure her. I didn't think she could be 18"...
After much research, I am still stumped. I have now seen other bride dolls, always red haired larger than mine. I purchased a very nice dress on eBay but it was for a larger doll and I ended up selling it as it didn't fit our Wendy. I now believe her to be from the 40's. Mom would have married in the early 50's and given the doll to cousins then. That explains why she was in pretty good condition. Mom never really "played" with her since she was probably a teenager when receiving the doll.
Still looking for a bridal gown for her. Let me know if you have or know somewhere to look.

Did you measure her is she 14 " and I wonder if she was always meant to be a Bride does your Mom remember ? I will sure keep my eye open for a dress for you but need to know her height :)
another question are those side braids wrapped in a circle on side of head ?
Manikin,
i believe she is 14.5 inches... Mom knows she was a bride originally and she believes her hair was styled as shown in braids on the side of her head.. Mom would have been 10 in 1945 so I'm guessing she is from that time or earlier. I am still looking for a dress for her
