Saw this oak fiddleback wall telephone on Ebay, I had a hunch that the wooden plate in the center of the phone was covering the holes for the dial and wires. I had bought a dial for this phone many years ago and just held on to it incase I would some day find the phone. I received the phone the other day and sure enought under the plate the dial mounting and wire holes were there. American Automatic Telephone Co. started manufacturing there telephones in 1907 and went bankrupt by 1911. American Bell Telephone Co. bought the rights to the dial patents. The post card is the American Automatic telephone Co factory in Urbana, Ohio

Did you clean & polish it, or was it refinished already?

walksoftly, I had very little restoring to do, It had been restored at one time many years ago. I had to match the stain under the wood plate which had the original finish. I replace the transmitter backcup because the original was badly bent. who ever did the first restoral did a nice job.
