Sun 6-15-Anyone have an idea of what it would cost to have the mechanism of this clock repaired? We would like to get it working, but unsure of cost? At some point this was bolted to a wall and there are 2 holes inside, as you can see in the picture that we want to fill in or something...the outside finish is rough & we think some small end pieces may also be missing. Any recommendations on refinishing this piece would be great!
We know this has been in the family since Civil War era. Not sure if it was made just before, during or just after the war, but has been in the family for 140+ years-received when father in law passed away. No one left in family who can tell us anything except great grandmother once owned it. It is in need of restoration & repair. Don't know where to start or who to trust. Any ideas or direction???? Anyone know maker?? We suspect Seth Thomas due to woodworking top and bottom, but don't know for sure. Only clock I have ever seen with 31 days of the month on the face backing. It is 25" tall and 15 1/4 wide and 4 1/2" deep with a key wind and pendulum.
Repair...yes, restoration..?????
It's obviously a Calendar Clock. The case style is called a "Column and Cornice". The hands look like it might be an early Ingraham, but I'm not sure. It looks like the glass tablet has been re-stenciled at some point in the past. You could try to look at the movement for a manufacturer's name or trademark. You'd have to carefully remove the hands and unscrew the dial board to see the movement.
