i grew up under Vatican II and we didn't have any of this iconography around our home, but we always saw it in our grandparent's and great grandparent's homes. I'm fascinated by religious iconography of all kinds, for some reason, but i'm not a religious person at all.
This is a very unusual presentation of Raphael's Tondo painting "Madonna and Child with St. John the Baptist", which is also called the Madonna of the Seggiola.
The original painting is multi-colored. Beautiful! : )
