A delightful novelty vesta case and one of my holy grail pieces, measuring approx 8.5cm long. Made by Sampson Mordan, this example was assayed in London in 1892. Sadly this one is not mine (yet) the latest one to be auctioned was sold at Bonhams and went for over £900 under the hammer.
I'm pretty sure there will be more out there somewhere (maybe at the odd flea market or antiques fairs). Although the term hens teeth does seem to apply to these pieces.
I will however continue to search the auctions and markets for another one.
Anything here:

I've seen the penknife/whistle version which is in the museum but none of the vesta cases, as I say I will continue my search.
love this!!
