My in-laws got a pair of these patches loose in a batch of other things from an estate auction. They don't appear to have been torn off of anything, so I don't think they were previously sewn on. Possibly ironed-on. They sell a lot of antiques online and think they might be vintage military patches, but I am a 24 year Army vet and I don't think so. I appreciate any insight anyone can provide. Thanks!
I agree with your doubts. I have not seen US Navy insignia with a life ring like this. Also, the unfinished edge of the patch and that the anchor isn't "fouled" by a rope or an eagle or shield present - none of that is proof, especially when you consider the Coast Guard. It's just the kind of stuff I'd expect to see.
Lots of non-military nautical uniforms and caps use anchors and life rings (Like the skipper of the SS Minnow!) Maybe this is from a cruise line or yachting club
