This is one of a few items (mostly photos) that I inherited from my step-grandfather years ago. The most frustrating and disappointing thing about this particular item, is that the image that was viewable in the cast horse's eye, has since been lost during one of several household moves. The image depicted a young man in uniform leaving his mother at their home's doorstep to serve the Kaiser. The image included the son's quote to his mother.

This very nice Reservist's flask belonged to a Cuirassier of the 5th (West Prussian) Cuirassiers “Duke Frederick Eugene of Württemberg”, a heavy cavalry regiment of the Royal Prussian Army. The regiment was formed in 1717. and fought in the Silesian Wars, the War of the Sixth Coalition, the Austro-Prussian War, the Franco-Prussian War and World War I. It was disbanded in 1919. How great to have such a fine piece of history that actually belonged to a family member!
