These look like early salt/pepper shakers. They only have one hole on the top and a metal like plug with a slot. They measure 2 3/4" x 1 1/2". Any ideas on the age or maker? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think I have solved the mystery. I think these are pie birds or pie ventilators. They were not designed to hold salt/pepper since the bottom cork is vented. These were used to keep pie crust high while baking!
