i just found a mark on it. it says 'Avon' and 'WR'.
    6. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 10 years ago
i guess that's an 'NR' for Nina Ricci.

I have this piece... It's Avon... I bought mine for $1 at a Garage Sale :)
I did some research and I think NR is some code Avon was putting on their jewelry that is not necessarily representative of any specific designer... Still not sure what it stands for though...

thanks DrFluffy. it does stand for Nina Ricci who was a designer who worked w/ Avon. that's cool that you got it for a dollar! it's pretty nice for a really cheap piece.

Avon sold them a few years back. they retailed around $30.

Hi ho2cultcha, just to clear things up, this is an Avon brooch, but not designed by Nina Ricci. Nina Ricci never designed for Avon. The NR is internal code, it stands for a factory which produced these pieces for Avon. It's a lovely brooch. :)

thank you katherinescollections. good info. i was kind of surprised to learn that NR worked for Avon at one time, but your info makes more sense.

It's a common error, you'll see pieces everywhere claiming Nina Ricci for Avon because of the NR initials. Avon has worked with many famous designers, however when they collaborate, the designer generally uses their full logo or brand name on the pieces they designed.
