There have been over the years a lot of antique jewelry made from animal claw or tooth passed through my hands. Both in silver and in gold. But such special if I show you today I never saw before.
I'm not a fan of jewelry made of animals but they belong in the ancient heritage in jewelry field. And fortunately, these animals are now well protected though still poached and hunted animals prohibited.
The brooch that I show you today is very old. I can not say how old. It is made of a crocodiles tooth in a special and rare silver granulated setting. The silver content, I cannot tell. There are 2 same marks. I cannot decode they look like a double U (U) maybe you have an idea?
At the bottom of the chain hangs a very detailed head of a crocodile, you can even count the teeth and with his teeth put in a gold set Rubin.
This brooch is quite large; 6 x 5.5 cm.
Who can tell me anything more about the origin?

idcloisonne thanks for your insightful comments and loving. The picture of the marks has been taken with a digital magnifier. But I replaced it with an even clearer picture of the marks. These show that there are no UU's but two A's (AA). Furthermore, I have the whole brooch checked and no other mark can find. Maybe you have another idea who the artist might be?

The dutch/Netherlands often used early marks to denote the city where the Silver Assay was done...ie Antwerp, Amsterdam. RER(BOB)

It is indeed gold (not tested but is cold colored) and yes it must have been a special story what results in this rare jewelry. Hope to "meet" you here again!

beautiful piece! i hope it's a croc tooth and not a tiger's, because they have many more to spare.
i think it is from Burma - where a lot of very fine silver work is from. i'm not sure about the marks though. i didn't think they used marks, but i don't know that much about it.

Repeated capital ``A`` in an rectangle with cut angles stands for Vienna (Wien) 1866 - 1922.It is seen as secondary mark (e.g. on Zuckerdosen legs) often with Diana`s head and dog`s head,but also as only mark,more often on small articles, but surprisingly on large items,too.It seems the marking system was not very consistent at the time (e.g. dog`s head in rather large items).
