Having been a folk artist for over 40 years, I still find it difficult to describe what exactly it is! Thought I would do it with photos. Last month my husband Eric found a stick with several beautiful, orange bracket fungi attached to it. He thought -as I did- that it looked like the dewlap on our little Florida lizards. So after watching this stick for several weeks, the stars were finally in the right place and my creative urges went into gear. - I had just cleaned my workshop in the garage and my arthritis was pleasantly absent- I sharpened my knife and carved the stick into the head and body of a lizard with the fungi still attached to it. Holes were made for the carved legs and tail and all were glued into place. Watch how the paint brings this little piece of folk art to life.
And that is the true definition. Whimsy from everyday bits of nothing!
Very talented ! and he is so cute too :-)
Yep - folk art!
Good on you - he's giving me a smile!
