This exceptional “Spirit of the Century” calendar was printed by Armour Meat Packing in 1900 to commemorate America’s Centennial of 1901. It is rare because: 1) all the panels are intact and as new; and 2) the presentation is very tasteful and dramatic.

The calendar features six stirring full-color illustrations of all of America’s wars up to that date; beginning with the Spirit of ’76 (soldiers of The Revolutionary War) and Andrew Jackson (War of 1812), Winfield Scott (Mexican War), Philip Sheridan (Civil War), George Custer (Indian Wars) and Teddy Roosevelt (Spanish-American War).

My wife and I acquired this work of art from the elderly daughter of George Schneider, a famous German-American painter who, at the end of his life, resided in Helena, Montana. Forty years ago, we purchased her house. He composed a tableau out of the pictures and framed each of the panels and the entire outer edge with red, white and blue grosgrain ribbon. The frame is the original, ornately carved oak and has the hand rolled, original glass protective cover.

It measures 35”wide, 31” high and is 1 1/2” deep.

This calendar is all original and has been untouched since it was framed in 1902, by George Schneider. He composed a tableau out of the pictures and framed each of the panels and the entire outer edge with red, white and blue grosgrain ribbon. The frame is the original, ornately carved oak and has the hand rolled, original glass protective cover.

I would like to know if anyone has seen this before, at sale or otherwise. Also, I would appreciate advice on how to properly classify it. Thanks so much for any guidance.
