This lovely blue rooster plate is 11" across and I think hand made in France , its very heavy for the size & has a sticker on the base saying - ART-FAIENCE
les imperfections sont la garantie d'un travail
    FAIT MAIN
    which translated is -
    ART FAIENCE
the imperfections are guarantee of hand made work.
    HAND MADE.
There is also a potter mark which looks like -MF or MT...??even EHT or ET in monogramme..
& three dents where this plate was fired..
I dont know much else about it so any info greatfully recieved..
Just found similar on web French Quimper??
I dont know if this is Quimper but definatly Quimper style especially the flowery pattern and the unpainted beak!

No doubt this is Quimper earthenware. These are made in Breton workshops and each piece is signed by the person who has decorated it. Lovely!

I love CW because almost every day when I'm browsing Show and Tell I find something that provides information on things I own. Take the plate pictured above, I have a plate that looked like it. So after reading the thread, I go to look at my plate. And lo and behold, mine looks the same, but the information on the reverse leads me to believe that mine is a reproduction. Still, now I know about the original, and that is useful. :)

Thanks, surfdub66, it is a pretty plate, seeing the original is very pleasing, there's something very happy about the design. I love roosters, chickens, and cows, as a rule, in my kitchen. :)
