i love the really supple leather and very tight details on this bag. the marbles are all handmade - all but one are biggies. i'd love to learn more about them, if anyone knows. i bought them in an antique store in nh yesterday.

That pouch is way big to have been a kids play bag. Long, long ago up there we carried our marbles to school everyday hanging in a smaller similar pouch we tied to our belt. Those larger bags were normally seen in stores behind the counter and they brought them out to let you see what you wanted to buy. The bag was always full but new stuff wasn't frequent. There were a good many fist fights over a game of marbles during recess. That was serious business. Poor kids here in Florida still play marbles. They don't have computers etc. and a bag of marbles is $1.

thanks fhrjr2 and pops52! my dad played a lot of marbles back in the 30s/40s and had quite a collection at one time. he says that he kept his collection in a bag like this after several years of winning the best marbles and it was in a bag like that he kept his best ones.
